Financial Implications Regarding Dropping and Withdrawing from MSU

Dropping a Class and Class Changes: Any student who drops a class during the first 8.99% of the class days of a term will receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees for the credit hours of the class or classes dropped. After 8.99% of the class length has elapsed, NO refund will be issued for a dropped class. However, classes of the same or fewer credits may be substituted when added prior to the 8.99% deadline for the dropped class at no additional tuition and fee charge.  (How to Drop Courses)

Withdrawing from School: Students CANNOT withdraw by attempting to drop all of their classes in Campus Connection.  When withdrawing (canceling all enrollment at MSU e.g. zero credits), refund considerations are made based on the date the withdrawal is processed and the classes that you are still enrolled in at the time of withdrawal. The withdrawal form may be accessed under Withdrawal Procedures at the Financial Aid site. Refunds for withdrawals are processed at the percentages based on the number of class days completed compared to the total number of class days in the term.

MSU Tuition & Fee Refund Schedule

Tuition and Fee Refund Schedule
Percent of Course Completed* Tuition and Fees Refunded
Dropping a Class** Withdrawing***
0.000% - 8.999% 100% 100%
9.000% - 34.999% 0% 75%
35.000% - 59.999% 0% 50%
60.000% - 100.000% 0% 0%

* When eligibility for a refund is calculated, MSU takes the number of calendar days that have elapsed since the class has started and divides that by the number of calendar days in the class.  As a result a class with fewer calendar days will have a shorter deadline to receive a refund.

** Academic credits subject to the MSU tuition and fee cap for full-time tuition are not eligible for a refund.

***Withdrawals must be submitted using the Withdrawal Procedures at Financial Aid site.
